Description | Record of Prime Minister Edward Heath's talks with President Nixon at Chequers which was also attended by Sir Burke Trend and Dr. Henry Kissinger. Discussions began on emphasising the Special relationship between the US and UK and then turned to the critical position which was developing in the Mediterranean; the SALT discussions; their joint interests in the Far East including Vietnam, Cambodia, China, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia and Soviet intentions in the Indian Ocean; South Africa and apartheid, Rhodesia; Soviet intentions in the trouble spots of the world - in Europe, in the Middle East and in the Western hemisphere and Cuba. Discussion continued on the Middle East, Egypt, Israel, Jordan and arms supplies to King Hussein, Libya and al-Gaddafi and the Four Powers talks. |
